…Influenced by his mother who knew about herbs, Ray developed a love for plants. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, and became a lecturer in classical languages ​​at his alma mater, and later a clergyman. However, due to political reasons, he left in 1661 and continued to travel around the country and continental Europe to observe nature, accompanied by his student, the zoologist Francis Willughby (1635-72).
