A village in Masuda County, central Gifu Prefecture. Population 1,618 (1995). Located in the Mase River basin, a tributary of the Masuda River, which is part of the Hida River system, most of the village area is forest, with settlements and cultivated land scattered on the terraces along the Mase River. A typical mountain village, it has become significantly depopulated due in part to its submersion in the construction of Iwaya Dam in 1973. Freshwater fish are farmed in the clear waters of the Mase River, attracting many anglers. It is connected to Hagiwara Town by National Route 257.
