King of France (reigned 1824-1830). Grandson of Louis XV. Youngest brother of Louis XVI and Louis XVIII. He went into exile when the French Revolution broke out, and organized counter-revolutionary movements in various places. After the restoration of the monarchy in 1814, he became a leader of the radical royalists. He ascended to the throne upon the death of Louis XVIII in 1824, but was pursued during the July Revolution of 1830 due to his reactionary policies, such as compensating the property of exiled aristocrats and suppressing freedom of speech, and died in exile in Italy.
