Tatekiriami - Tatekiriami

Japanese:
Tatekiriami - Tatekiriami
A large, ribbon-shaped net used to enclose a school of fish from the seabed to the surface and catch them. Sinkers are attached to the bottom of the net, and the length of the net is roughly the same as the water depth. Most fishing methods use bays. First, the net is set up in a semicircle at the mouth of the bay and inside the bay to block the escape route of migratory fish that have entered the bay, and then fishing boats enter the inside of the net and catch fish using seine nets, set nets, gill nets, and landing nets. Due to the characteristics of this fishing method, it is also called a "blocking net." In fishing grounds that are not blessed with bays, the fish are first set up by the net boat around the school of fish and then caught. The characteristics of kenkiri net fishing are that at least two or more types of fishing nets are used in combination, and although there are differences depending on the fishing nets used inside the kenkiri net and the type of fish caught, the scale of operation is larger than other net fisheries.
