Wisdom of Ben Sirach

A book in the Old Testament Apocrypha. It belongs to wisdom literature. Also known as the Wisdom of Jesus Son of Shere, the Book of the Church, and the Book of Wisdom, this is an excellent collection of proverbs from the 2nd century BCE. At a time when Hellenism threatened the existence of Judaism, it sought to integrate traditional religion with universal wisdom, feared God, sought wisdom in relation to the history of Israel, and identified it with the law. The first half, chapter 1 to chapter 42, verse 14, are hymns to wisdom and proverbs of all kinds on friendship, education, women, doctors, the rich and the poor, and how to behave, while the second half, chapter 42, verse 15 to chapter 50, verse 29, describe God's work in creation and history.

旧約聖書外典中の一書。知恵文学に属する。《シラの子イエスの知恵》《教会の書》《知恵の書》とも呼ばれ，前2世紀のすぐれた箴言（しんげん）集。ヘレニズムがユダヤ教の存在をおびやかした時期，伝統的宗教と普遍的知恵の統合を求め，神を恐れ，知恵をイスラエルの歴史との関係で求め，律法と同一視する。前半1章～42章14節は知恵の賛歌と友情，教育，女性，医者，富者と貧者，身の処し方などあらゆる種類の箴言で，後半42章15節～50章29節は創造と歴史における神の業を述べる。
