A Hindu kingdom centered in the Karnataka (Mysore) region of southern India. The kingdom was established in 1610 by Chāma Rāja IV, a ruler of Hadinadu, from the Vijayanagar Kingdom, which was in decline. Successive kings have had the title of Udaiyār (Wodeyār). Chikka Dēva Rāja, who ruled from 1672 to 1704, established a communications system and an administrative organization consisting of 18 departments, and led the kingdom to prosperity by expanding into southern India as far as Madurai.
