As a Japanese version of the Pugwash Conferences, which originated with the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, this conference was organized by three doctors, Hideki Yukawa, Shinichiro Tomonaga, and Shoichi Sakata, and was held by a small group of humanities, social science, and natural science scientists to explore ways to move beyond the nuclear age and create an age of peace. The first conference was held in 1962. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
