Etymologicum magnum [Latin]

Japanese: 大語義字典 - だいごぎじてん（英語表記）Etymologicum magnum[ラテン]

An ancient Greek dictionary compiled in the Byzantine Empire around the end of the 9th century. It was compiled by Photius based on the traditions of ancient Greek literary and grammatical research that had been passed down in the ancient commentaries on classical works, and became one of the sources of the later Semantic Dictionaries. The text of the Etymologicum itself has now been lost, but the contents of the articles remain in the form of excerpts for these Semantic Dictionaries. Since there is also an excerpt version called the Etymologicum Magnum Genuinum, the lost text is sometimes called the Etymologicum Magnum Genuinum.

9世紀末ころにビザンティン帝国で編纂された古代ギリシア語辞典。古典作品への古注に伝えられていた古代ギリシアの文学研究と文法研究の伝統を基にしてフォティオスが編纂させたもので，後代の《語義字典》群の母体のひとつになった。《大語義字典》の本文そのものは現在は消失しているが，記事内容はこれら《語義字典》群に抜粋されて残っている。抜粋版の中にも同名の《大語義字典》と称するものがあるため，消失した本文のほうは区別して《真正大語義字典Etymologicum magnum genuinum》と呼ぶこともある。
