King of the Kushan dynasty in ancient India. According to one theory, he reigned between 91 and 130 AD. His birth and death years are unknown. He was also known as Vima Kadphises, and is recorded as Yan Gaozhen in the Book of the Later Han. He succeeded his father, Kadphises I (Kujula), and expanded his territory to northern and central India, calling himself "King of kings, Lord of the whole world." He is known for issuing large, highly pure gold coins instead of the traditional silver coins. [Yamazaki Genichi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
