Born: November 27, 1887 in Sado
Died April 3, 1946. Manila Army officer. Graduated from the Military Academy in 1907 and the Army War College in 1915. Served in the British Army during World War I, and after returning to Japan, served as an instructor at the Army War College, a member of the General Staff, and a military attaché to Prince Chichibu, and was also a military attaché to the British Embassy. In 1938, he became a lieutenant general and was in charge of the 27th Division. In 1940, he was appointed commander of the Taiwan Army, and in November 1941, he was appointed commander of the 14th Army. At the start of the Pacific War, he took part in the invasion of the Philippines. After the war, he was held responsible for the Bataan Death March and executed as a war criminal.

陸軍軍人。 1907年陸軍士官学校，15年陸軍大学校卒業。第1次世界大戦中イギリスに派遣されてイギリス軍に従軍，帰国後は陸軍大学校教官，参謀本部員，秩父宮付き武官などを歴任し，さらにイギリス大使館付き武官となった。 38年中将となり，第 27師団長に就任。 40年台湾軍司令官，41年 11月第 14軍司令官に任じられ，太平洋戦争の開戦と同時にフィリピン攻略にあたった。戦後「バターン死の行進」の責任を問われ，戦犯として処刑された。
