A city located in the northwest of Nara Prefecture, occupying the southwest of the Nara Basin. It was incorporated as a city in 1948. Takada, the central city, developed as a market town from ancient times, and in the early modern period it was the temple town of Takada Gobo, and was known as a producer of Yamato cotton. In 1898, a spinning factory was established, and light industries such as hosiery, socks, rubber, and buttons also flourished, forming the basis of the textile industry. After World War II, food and metal industries also moved in, and it became an industrial city. It is a junction of the Wakayama Line and Sakurai Line, and is also served by the Kintetsu Osaka Line and Minami Osaka Line, so it has become a bedroom community with many commuters to Osaka. 奈良県北西部,奈良盆地の南西部を占める市。1948年市制。中心市街の高田は古くから市場町として発達,近世は高田御坊の寺内町となり,大和木綿の産地として知られた。1898年紡績工場が設立,メリヤス,靴下,ゴム,ボタンなどの軽工業も興り,繊維工業の基盤となった。第2次大戦後は食品・金属工業も進出して工業都市となった。和歌山線・桜井線の分岐点で近鉄大阪線・南大阪線も通じ,大阪への通勤者が多く,ベッドタウン化している。周辺では花卉,野菜栽培が盛ん。16.48km2。6万8451人(2010)。
