Yi Kyubo (English name)

A politician and scholar from the mid-Goryeo period in Korea. Born in Yeoju-gun, Gyeonggi-do. His pen name was Chungyong. His pen names were Baekunsan and Baekunkosa. His posthumous name was Jangsun. He was gifted from an early age, and excelled in prose and poetry. He was also well versed in the classics, history, the hundreds of schools of thought, and the various Buddhist texts. He was known as the greatest writer of the Goryeo period. In the 20th year of King Myeongjong's reign (1190), he passed the Jinsa examination, and progressed to the position of Sairang Pyeongsa under his disciples. His time was the era of so-called Choi clan's sole authority over military officials. He was also selected for the position after writing "Mojeonggi" at the request of Choi Chung-hyeon, but he was demoted for a time due to disagreements with Choi Chung-hyeon. In the 8th year of the reign of King Gojong (1221), he prepared a letter of state to Mongolia at the king's will, which proved effective in diplomacy with Mongolia, and he was given the titles of deputy ambassador to the Privy Council, Minister of Personnel, and assistant governor of the Jihyeonjeon University. His main works include "The Lisangguk Collection of the Dongguk Period," "The White Cloud Novel," "Poems of Cheonma Mountain," and "The Dongmyeong Wang Edition."

朝鮮，高麗中期の政治家，学者。京畿道驪州郡出身。字は春卿。号は白雲山，白雲居士。諡は丈順。幼少より才気豊かで，文章，詩文に長じ，また経史，百家，老仏諸書に広く通じた高麗一代の文豪と称された。明宗 20 (1190) 年進士に及第，以後累進し，門下侍郎平事にいたった。彼の生きた時代は，いわゆる崔氏一門による武臣専権の時代であった。彼も崔忠献 (さいちゅうけん) の請いにより『茅亭記』をつくって抜擢されたが，崔忠献と意見が合わず，一時左遷されたこともある。高宗8 (1221) 年，彼は王意を受け，モンゴルへの国書を作成し，これが対モンゴル外交に効を奏したので，枢密院副使，吏部尚書，集賢殿大学士参知政事を授けられた。主著『東国李相国集』『白雲小説』『天磨山詩』『東明王編』。
