Occupying the base of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, this city faces the Sea of Japan. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. The city center is at the southwestern end of the Ochigata lowlands, and is served by the Nanao Line. In addition to the silk and rayon textile industries that developed from the mid-Meiji period, the electrical equipment and casting industries have also flourished in recent years. Chirihama was a key port during the days of Japanese ships. It is home to Keta Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Noto Province, Myojoji Temple, and the Shibagaki Beach swimming beach. Area: 81.85 ^km2 . Population: 23,032 (2010).
