This phenomenon occurs when seeds sprout from ears of wheat before harvest. This phenomenon is seen in wheat, rice, corn, and other crops due to weather conditions such as rainfall, and can lead to reduced yields and poor quality. As a countermeasure, early-ripening varieties that can be harvested before the rainy season and varieties with genes that are highly dormant and do not germinate easily even when they absorb water are being bred. 収穫前の穂に実った種子から芽が出る現象。降雨などの気象条件により、小麦・米・トウモロコシなどでみられ、収穫減や品質低下の原因となる。対策として、降雨期の前に収穫できる早熟種や、休眠性が強く吸水しても発芽しにくい遺伝子をもつ品種の育種が行われている。
