Born June 25, 1852. Soma Gyofu was his son-in-law. As editor-in-chief of the Yubin Hochi Shimbun, he debated with Fukuchi Ochi of the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun from the standpoint of freedom and civil rights. In 1882, he participated in the formation of the Constitutional Reform Party, and in 1890, he became a member of the House of Representatives (elected twice). He died August 19, 1892. He was 41 years old. He was from Bungo (Oita Prefecture). He graduated from Keio University. His maiden name was Hayashi. His pen name was Meikaru. His works include "History of the Eastward Movement of Civilization" and "Record of Great Achievements of Saving the People."
