Ampurias - Ampurias

...It continued to flourish throughout the Roman period, and even during the Visigothic period it maintained a size large enough to house a bishopric. However, after the Muslim conquest in the early 8th century, it was abandoned, and today only the dilapidated village of Ampurias remains. Excavations are almost complete, and remains of a cemetery, temples, houses, an early Christian church, and many fine sculptures, pottery, mosaics, etc. have been found.
