A clan that ruled over the Takato region of Shinano Province (Nagano Prefecture). After the Oda clan attacked Takato Castle (1582), the Hoshina clan, who served Tokugawa Ieyasu and entered Takato Castle, moved to Tako in Shimousa (Chiba Prefecture) when Ieyasu was transferred to the Kanto region. Ten years later, in 1600 (Keicho 5), they again ruled over the Takato domain with 25,000 koku of rice. In 1615 (Genwa 1), they were granted an additional 5,000 koku of rice in the Matsumoto Daira Seba region. Masayuki, the younger brother of Tokugawa Iemitsu and adopted son of Hoshina Masamitsu, was transferred to Dewa Yamagata Castle in 1636 (Kan'ei 13) with a fief of 200,000 koku. In exchange, Torii Tadatsune's younger brother Tadaharu, who was stripped of his fief of 220,000 koku in Yamagata due to lack of an heir, moved to Takato with a new fief of 30,000 koku. However, as it was a small domain, it was poor financially and as a result of harsh governance, 3,000 farmers in the domain fled in 1654 (Shoo 3). During the next lord, Tadanori, the domain was confined to his own domain for suspicious behavior by his retainers, and he died shortly thereafter, and the Takato domain became the domain of the shogunate (his son, Tadanori, was transferred to Shimomura, Noto with 10,000 koku). In 1690 (Genroku 3), a land survey was carried out for the entire domain under the Tenryo administration of the Matsumoto domain, and the land surveyed at this time was strict, and the 6,000 koku or more that was surveyed was incorporated into the Shogunate's territory. The following year, Naito Kiyokazu, who had held 33,000 koku in Settsu, Kawachi, and other areas, entered the domain and held 33,000 koku, and after eight generations, the domain continued to exist until the Meiji Restoration. The Naito clan, a small Fudai domain, also had financial difficulties, and as sung about in the song "Inabushi," the seized rice from within the domain was sent to the Kiso Valley through the domain's tax levy. In the Bunsei period (1818-1830), the entire domain faced an uprising called the "Waraji Soro" ("Waraji Uprising"); however, the financial reforms carried out by the wealthy farmers during the Bunsei and Tenpo periods (1818-1844) helped the domain avoid the threat of ruin. The Takato Domain School, which was run by Tenzan Sakamoto, was revived by the appointment of Chuso Nakamura (Mototsune), and talented people were produced from the domain school Shintokukan run by his son Genki Nakamura. Ejima, a maid in the Ooku, was exiled in 1714 (4th year of the Shōtoku era).
