A wound caused by a blow from a relatively heavy bladed instrument such as a Japanese sword, an axe, or a machete. A sharp instrument such as a Japanese sword has the same characteristics as a cut wound, while a heavy, blunt instrument such as an axe resembles a cut wound but also has the characteristics of a contusion.
