A large alluvial basin in southwestern France. With the exception of the Adour River basin, which occupies the southwestern part of the region, the Garonne River, one of France's four major rivers, occupies most of the area. It is bounded by the Pyrenees to the south, the Massif Central to the northeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It is connected to the Paris Basin through the Poitiers region and the lowlands of the Languedoc on the Mediterranean side through the lowlands of the Lauragais region. The region has a warm, rainy climate, and diversified agriculture, including the cultivation of corn, wheat, and fruit trees, is practiced. Livestock farming is also important. The left bank of the Garonne estuary is a monoculture area where grapes for Bordeaux wine are grown, and the Landes region in the southwest is a vast pine forest area. Toulouse at the upper reaches of the Garonne River and Bordeaux at the mouth of the estuary are the two major centers of the basin. The development of the industrial area of Toulouse is the driving force behind the development plan for the basin. Efforts are also being made to develop chemical industries that utilize natural gas from the Lac region near Pau in the northern foothills of the Pyrenees, and oil and natural gas development in the Landes department, and the industry in the basin is gradually changing.

フランス南西部の大沖積盆地。南西部を占めるアドゥール川流域を除けば，フランス四大河川の一つガロンヌ川の集水域が大部分を占める。南はピレネー山脈，北東はマシフサントラル (中央山地) に限られ，西は大西洋にのぞむ。パリ盆地とはポアティエ地方，地中海側ラングドック低地とはローラゲ地方の低地帯を通じてそれぞれ連絡されている。気候は温暖多雨，トウモロコシ，コムギ，果樹の栽培などの多角的農業が行われ家畜飼育も重要。ガロンヌ川河口三角江左岸には有名なボルドー・ワイン用のブドウの単作地帯が，また南西部ランド地方には広大なマツ林地区がそれぞれ広がっている。ガロンヌ川上流部のツールーズ，河口のボルドーが同盆地の二大中心地。ツールーズの工業地帯の発展は特に同盆地開発計画の推進力である。ピレネー山脈北麓ポー付近のラックの天然ガスを利用した化学工業，ランド県の石油，天然ガス開発などにも力が入れられ，盆地内の産業は次第に様相を変えてきている。
