…Currently used tonometers measure intraocular pressure by applying a certain force to the eyeball and measuring the degree of deformation (indentation tonometer) or the force required to cause a certain deformation (applanation tonometer). Usually, in clinical practice, there are indentation tonometers, such as the Schiøtz tonometer, and applanation tonometers, such as the Goldmann tonometer. The former includes errors due to the degree of extensibility of the eyeball wall (eyeball wall stiffness), but the latter is not affected by this and can obtain more accurate intraocular pressure values. …
