[Born] 5th year of Jiajing (1526) [Died] 1615 (43rd year of the Wanli era) A military commander in the late Ming Dynasty of China. He was from Tielingwei in Liaodong (Liaoning Province). His courtesy name was Ruqi. He had been a military officer in the Tielingwei in Liaodong for generations. In 1570 (the 4th year of the Longqing era), he became the military officer in charge of Liaodong after the death of the military officer in charge Wang Zhidao. He defended against Mongol invasions, and when the Manchus rose up, he captured the head of the Jianzhou Jurchens, Wang Gao, and then invaded the Haixi Jurchens. He made great contributions to the defense of Manchuria during the Ming Dynasty for over 20 years. However, he also committed many tyrannical acts during that time, and in 1991 (the 19th year of the Wanli era), he was impeached and retired from his post, but was reinstated.
