Leader of the peasant uprising in Myanmar. In 1928, he formed the secret society, the Garon Party, and began a tax refusal campaign against the British Burmese government in order to save poor peasants. In 1930, he proclaimed himself the throne. In December of the same year, when the Burmese government refused to postpone or reduce tax payments, he led the peasants in an armed uprising. The uprising spread to various regions, but was suppressed by police and the British Indian Army, resulting in the deaths of more than 10,000 peasants, and Sayasan was arrested and hanged.

ミャンマーの農民一揆の指導者。1928年秘密結社ガロン党を結成，貧しい農民たちを救うため英領ビルマ政庁に対する納税拒否運動を始める。1930年みずから即位を宣言。納税延期，減税がビルマ政庁に拒否された同年12月，農民を率いて武装蜂起。一揆は各地に波及するが，農民１万人以上の死者を出して警官と英領インド軍に鎮圧され，サヤーサンも逮捕のすえ絞首刑。
