1859‐1918 French writer and mystic. Born Joseph Péladan in Lyon. He was involved in the study of occultism from an early age. He called himself "Shah" (Persian for "king"). In 1892, he founded the "Salon de la Rose-Croix" and influenced many writers and artists after the Symbolist movement. Since his first work, "The Supreme Evil" (1884), he has written numerous magical theories, novels, art critiques, and plays, including the 19-volume "The Fall of the Latin Peoples" (1885-1907).
