Ameyaodori - Ameyaodori

...A dance performed at festivals in the Kanto region, mainly in Saitama Prefecture. It is a kind of local kyogen, also called "Mansaku Shibai" or "Ameya Dance." At the end of the Edo period, young people in the rural areas around Edo invented kabuki-like dances to the popular folk songs of the time, and performed them themselves. The repertoire includes plays such as "Shiramasu Koya," "Kasamatsu Toge," and "Koudaiji Osho," and hand dances such as "Shinkawa," "Shimotsuma Soui," and "Ise Ondo."
