A school whose purpose was to train engineering officers for the former Imperial Japanese Navy, and to educate engineering and engineering sergeants. It was opened in Yokosuka in 1874 as a branch of the Naval Academy, and in 1871 it was renamed the Naval Academy Affiliated Engineering School, and in 1923 it was renamed the Naval Engineering School. It was later moved to Etajima and Maizuru, and in 1944 it became the Maizuru Branch of the Naval Academy to unify the military and engineering departments. 旧日本海軍の機関科将校の養成および、機関・工作兵曹長等の教育を目的とした学校。明治七年(一八七四)海軍兵学校分校として横須賀に開設され、同一一年、海軍兵学校附属機関学校に、同二六年海軍機関学校に改称。その後江田島、舞鶴と移転し、昭和一九年(一九四四)兵科、機関科一系化のため海軍兵学校舞鶴分校となった。
