Kitazawa Rakuten - Kitazawa Rakuten
Born: July 20, 1876 in Tokyo
[Died] August 25, 1955. Omiya manga artist. Raised in a wealthy family, he learned the basics of painting at the Taikokan art school run by Ohno Yukihiko. In April 1905, he launched Tokyo Pack, which criticized capitalism and sold 50,000 copies at its peak, continuing until 1911. In the early Taisho period, he published Rakuten Pack. He had many disciples, including Shimokawa Oten. After his death, his residence remains as the Saitama Municipal Manga Hall.
