Veneto (province)

Japanese: ベネト[州]（英語表記）Veneto

A region in northern Italy. Formerly known as Venezia Euganea. Area: 18,364 km2, population: 4.42 million (1994). Capital: Venice. Agriculture is carried out in the fertile Po plain, where wheat, corn, sugar beets, and grapes are cultivated. Glass and heavy chemical industries are thriving in Verona, Padua, and Marghera, across from Venice. Veneto has a complex history, and the size of its territory has changed dramatically over time. From the perspective of linguistic and cultural history, it is appropriate to interpret the current regional border as merely an administrative line.

イタリア北部の州。旧名はベネチア･エウガネアVenezia Euganea。面積1万8364km2，人口442万(1994)。州都はベネチア。肥沃なポー平原で農業が営まれ，小麦，トウモロコシ，テンサイ，ブドウが栽培されている。ベローナ，パドバやベネチアの対岸のマルゲーラではガラス，重化学工業が盛んである。ベネトの歴史は複雑で，時代により領域の規模が極端に変わり，言語･文化史的観点から現在の州境界線は，ただ単に行政的に画された線，と解するのが妥当である。
