〘名〙① 矢を立て入れる道具。胡簶(やなぐい)などをいう。※散木奇歌集(1128頃)恋「ままきのやたてのひらなるにむすびつけてつかはしける」② 「やたて(矢立)の硯」の略。※源平盛衰記(14C前)二九「箙の中より矢立(ヤタテ)取出し、墨筆に和して畳紙を染て」③ 近世、腰にさして携行した筆記具。墨壺に筆のはいる筒をつけて、帯にはさむようになっている。※俳諧・独吟一日千句(1675)第二「旅人も作り字しるす矢立にて 詩の言葉にも遠寺の晩鐘」④ 矢を射て物に突き立てること。また、矢が突き立っている状態。※曾我物語(南北朝頃)七「駒をはやめてうつ程に、矢たてのすぎといひけるを」⑤ 鉄砲をうって山の神に献ずること。猪狩の獲物を分配した後、三度発砲する地と、一度発砲する地とがある。※地名の研究(1936)〈柳田国男〉地名考説「日向西臼杵郡の山中では狩の始めに鉄砲を一発放ちて山の神に手向くるを矢立(ヤタテ)と云ふ」
