Heritability

Japanese: 遺伝率 - いでんりつ（英語表記）heritability

A measure of the degree to which a quantitative trait is genetically determined. Also known as heritability, it is represented by ^the symbol h2 . Traits such as human height do not follow a simple inheritance pattern, but they have long been known to be inherited, and biostatisticians studied such traits before the rediscovery of Mendel's law. They devised several statistical methods but were unsuccessful in determining their inheritance pattern. Today, height is thought to be determined by a large number of genes (polygenes) with small effect, in addition to environmental factors, and such traits are called quantitative traits.

量的形質がどの程度遺伝的に決定されるかを示す尺度。遺伝力ともいわれ，h²の記号で示される。ヒトの背の高さのような形質は単純な遺伝様式を示さないが，遺伝することは古くから知られており，メンデルの法則再発見以前に，生物統計学者はこのような形質について研究していた。彼らは幾つかの統計的手法を案出したが，その遺伝様式については成果をあげられなかった。今日背の高さは，効果の小さい多数の遺伝子(ポリジーン)とそれらに環境の要因が加わって決定されると考えられ，このような形質は量的形質と呼ばれる。
