This is a two-volume collection by J.S. Bach (Volume 1 BWV 846-869, Volume 2 BWV 870-893), each of which contains 24 preludes and fugues. It is a groundbreaking collection that challenges the possibilities of the then-new equal temperament system (although not the 12-part equal temperament system used today), and uses all major and minor keys. Each volume begins with C major, then C minor, C sharp major, C sharp minor, etc., and ascends chromatically in sequence until the final key of B minor. J.S.
