The Well-Tempered Clavier (English title)

Japanese: 平均律クラビーア曲集 - へいきんりつクラビーアきょくしゅう（英語表記）Das Wohltemperierte Klavier

This is a two-volume collection by J.S. Bach (Volume 1 BWV 846-869, Volume 2 BWV 870-893), each of which contains 24 preludes and fugues. It is a groundbreaking collection that challenges the possibilities of the then-new equal temperament system (although not the 12-part equal temperament system used today), and uses all major and minor keys. Each volume begins with C major, then C minor, C sharp major, C sharp minor, etc., and ascends chromatically in sequence until the final key of B minor.

J.S.バッハの2巻から成る曲集で(第1巻BWV846～869，第2巻BWV870～893)，各巻とも24の前奏曲とフーガを含む。当時まだ新しかった平均律(ただし現在のような12等分平均律ではない)の可能性に挑戦し，すべての長調と短調を用いた画期的な曲集で，各巻ともハ長調から始まってハ短調，嬰ハ長調，嬰ハ短調……というように，長調と短調を交互に置いて最後のロ短調まで半音階的に順次上行する配列がとられている。
