A type of paper toy (gangu). It consists of a piece of paper with just the outline of an Ofuku mask's face drawn on it, and other pieces of paper with the eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, etc. cut out. To play, a player blindfolded with a hand towel or similar item arranges the eyes, nose, etc. on the Ofuku mask's paper, and the fun part is that the end result is a comical face that makes you want to laugh. It seems to have become popular around the mid-Edo period, and was popular as an indoor game during the New Year holidays from the Meiji period onwards until before World War II. [Ryosuke Saito] This game is said to have become popular in the middle of the Edo period. Along with sugoroku and karuta, it was popular as an indoor game during the New Year holidays.
