A waterfall on the Paraná River on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. Its name means "Seven Waterfalls." In Paraguay, it is called Salto del Guairá. It is a canyon where the Paraná River narrows from a width of 380m to about 60m, and was known for the magnificent sight of the river water flowing in 18 waterfalls. However, it was submerged at the bottom of the lake to store water for the Itaipu Dam, which was completed in 1982. [Nishizawa Toshie] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
