Kaifu Castle

...The center of the area is the Tomo-oku district, which occupies the south bank of the mouth of the Kaifu River, and consists of the fishing village of Tomoura and the commercial town of Okuura. Its origins date back to the Genki era (1570-73), when the Kaifu clan built Kaifu Castle (Tomo Castle) in Tomoura. Even after the Hachisuka clan entered Awa, it continued to be valued as a strategic location on the border between Awa and Tosa, and Okuura flourished as a castle town. In the Kan'ei era (1624-44), Kaifu Castle was abolished due to the One Castle per Province Law, but the district office was established there and it continued to occupy a central position in the Kaifu region. ...
