A perennial plant of the Lamiaceae family that grows in the shade of trees in the mountains (illustration). The underground stems spread horizontally and swell into small lumps in places. The stems are slightly upright at the bottom and erect at the top, thin and hairy, 20-30cm tall and sparsely branched. The leaves are opposite and have petioles, ovate, 2-4cm long, and have a few sawtooth edges. From August to October, sparse inflorescences about 10cm long appear at the top of the stem, and small white flowers bloom. The calyx is green and bell-shaped with five shallow lobes at the tip, and when it becomes a fruit it becomes slightly larger and slightly two-lipped.
