...A transformer is a device that has two or more sets of coils wound around a common iron core. The voltage of each coil is proportional to the number of turns, and a current transformer is used to change the current by taking advantage of the fact that the current is inversely proportional to the number of turns when there are two sets of coils. An impedance converter uses the fact that when an impedance is connected to one coil and seen from the other coil, it appears twice as large (in terms of turns ratio), and a matching transformer is specifically used for impedance matching (matching the internal impedance of the power source and the impedance of the load to transmit maximum power).
