Fukurozoushi - Fukurozoushi

This is a book on waka poetry from the late Heian period. It was written by Fujiwara no Kiyosuke. It consists of an upper volume commonly known as "Fukuro-soshi" and a lower volume called "Waka-awase-shidai" or "Fukuro-soshi-ihen." The first volume was compiled in 1157 (Hogen 2) or the following year, and the second volume was completed shortly thereafter. The contents of the upper volume include detailed etiquette and practice in waka poetry gatherings, an introduction to the various circumstances and problems of the "Man'yoshu" and other imperial anthologies, "Zatsudan" (Dialogue), which includes anecdotes about poets, and "Rare Waka" (Popular Waka), which includes poems of gods and Buddhas and recitation poems. The second volume is made up of "Wakaawase Shidai," which discusses the progress of poetry contests and the historical practices of the selectors and judges, "Kokin Utaawase Nan," which lists examples of difficult cases and difficult judgments in poetry contests, and "Deceased Waka Nan," which collects precedents of criticism of waka. It is a valuable resource for waka research and a precursor to waka story collections, and can be said to be an encyclopedia of the historical practices of waka.

平安後期の歌学書。著者は藤原清輔(きよすけ)。「袋草紙」と通称される上巻と、「和歌合(あわせ)次第」または「袋草紙遺編」と称される下巻がある。成立は、上巻が1157年（保元2）か翌58年、引き続き下巻が成った。内容は、上巻が和歌会における細かな作法や故実、『万葉集』以下歴代の勅撰(ちょくせん)集の諸事情や問題点の紹介、歌人の逸話を収める「雑談」、神仏の歌や誦文(しょうもん)歌を集める「希代(きたい)和歌」からなる。下巻は、歌合(うたあわせ)の進行や撰者・判者の故実を論ずる「和歌合次第」、歌合における難陳(なんちん)・難判の例をあげる「古今歌合難」、和歌に対する非難の先例を集めた「故人和歌難」からなる。貴重な和歌研究資料であり、和歌説話集の先駆けともなり、和歌故実の百科全書といえよう。
