Hu Yuzhi (English spelling)

Japanese: 胡愈之 - こゆし（英語表記）Hú Yù zhī

1895‐1986
Chinese critic and Esperantist. Born in Zhejiang Province. After studying at the University of Paris, he worked as an editor of the Commercial Press' Oriental Magazine. In 1930, he visited many countries around the world and published Impressions of Moscow, which attracted attention, but he was oppressed as a left-wing critic. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, he traveled around Guangxi Province, Singapore, Indonesia, and other places, and engaged in anti-Japanese activities through writing. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he held important positions such as member of the China Democratic League, vice chairman, and member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. Since 1974, he has served as president of the All-China Esperanto Association.

中国の評論家，エスペランティスト。浙江省の人。パリ大学に留学後，商務印書館の《東方雑誌》編集者として活躍。1930年，世界各国を歴訪，《モスクワ印象記》を出版し注目をあつめたが左翼評論家として圧迫をうけた。日中戦争中に，広西省，シンガポール，インドネシアなど各地を転々，文筆による抗日運動をおこなった。新中国成立後は，中国民主同盟委員，副主席，全国人民代表大会常務委員などの要職を歴任。1974年以降，中華全国エスペラント協会の会長を務めた。
