This hot spring is located in the southern part of Daigo Town, Kuji County, at the northern tip of Ibaraki Prefecture. It overlooks Takikawa River, a tributary of the Kuji River. Its origins are said to date back to the Heian period, but it was known as "Tagoto no Yu" ("hot spring of Tagoto") for a long time as it naturally gushed forth from among the rice paddies. In 1936, drilling was successfully carried out at the current location, and with the amount of water now exceeding 250 liters per minute, many hot spring inns have moved in. It is included in Okukuji Prefectural Natural Park, and nearby is Fukuroda Falls, also known as Yodo Falls, and together they make this the largest tourist destination in the mountainous area of the northern part of the prefecture.
