1618‐69 Spanish playwright. Born into an Italian merchant family, he graduated from the University of Alcalá and became a priest. He was one of Calderón's followers and wrote about 50 plays, many of which were adaptations of other authors' works, and are therefore said to lack creativity, but in many cases they are more complete than the originals. His representative works include "Contempt for Contempt" and "Good Man Don Diego." [Inui Eiichi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
