Iran's greatest national epic poet. He was interested in myths and legends, and spent about 30 years completing the Shahnameh, a story from the founding of Persia to the Sassanid dynasty. He dedicated it to the Khaznavid sultan, King Mahmud, but received only a small reward, so he composed a 100-line poem satirizing the king. This great epic poem, which has been compared to the Odyssey, continues to inspire the national fervor of Iranians to this day. → Related topics: Asadi | Ghaznavid | Mashhad Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
