Aka [village] - Aka

Japanese:
Aka [village] - Aka
A village in Tagawa County, northeastern Fukuoka Prefecture. Population 3,726 (1995). Surrounded by hills, a small basin opens up along the Imagawa River, which flows north from Mt. Hiko. The Imagawa River turns east at the village border and flows into the Suo-Nada Sea. It is the only village in the county that did not have a coal mine, but since there were many people who commuted to the mines, many people lost their jobs when the coal industry slumped, and it was a serious blow. For this reason, an industrial complex was developed to ensure employment opportunities for men. The base of industry is agriculture, with rice and vegetable cultivation being the main products. Forests cover about 70% of the village area, and it produces high-quality cedar.
