American politician. Born in Chicago, Illinois. In the Obama administration that began in January 2009, she was appointed Secretary of State by President Obama (67th). She retired from her position in January 2013. Her husband was the 42nd President, Bill Clinton. She ran closely against Obama in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, but lost. She graduated from Wellesley College, a prestigious women's college in the eastern United States, and Yale Law School, and became a lawyer. She was a member of the feminist generation that opposed the Vietnam War in the 1960s and advocated women's independence, and was seen as the first female presidential candidate in the United States from an early stage. In 2000, she became a senator from New York State. Her political stance was consistently liberal, and she had strong support from women and non-whites in urban areas, but in the 2008 primary, she changed her stance to one that was conscious of conservative voters, which is said to have been one of the reasons why her traditional supporters shifted to Obama. Her approval rating rose toward the end of her term as Secretary of State, and Democratic supporters had high hopes for her as the presidential candidate after President Obama. He formally announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential election in April 2015.

Hillary

New Zealand mountaineer. Beekeeper by trade. In 1953, he joined the 9th British Everest Expedition led by Hunt, and on May 29, he and Sherpa Tenzing became the first to summit Everest. In 1958, he reached the South Pole overland from Scott Base to assist a British team led by Fuchs, who was attempting to be the first to cross Antarctica. His books include "High Adventure".

米国の政治家。イリノイ州シカゴ出身。2009年１月発足したオバマ政権でオバマ大統領から国務長官に指名され就任（67代）。2013年１月国務長官を退いた。夫は42代大統領ビル・クリントン。2008年の大統領選挙民主党予備選でオバマと接戦を演じたが惜敗した。東部の名門女子大ウェルズリー大学，イェール大学ロー・スクールを卒業して弁護士となる。1960年代のベトナム反戦，女性の自立を主張するフェミニズム世代で，早くから米国初の女性大統領候補に目されていた。2000年ニューヨーク州選出上院議員となる。政治姿勢は一貫してリベラル派で女性層や都市部の非白人層に強い支持があったが，2008年の予備選では保守層を意識した姿勢に修正し，従来の支持層がオバマに流れる一因となったと言われる。国務長官任期の終盤から支持率が上昇，民主党支持層からオバマ大統領後の大統領候補として期待が高まっていた。2016年の大統領選への立候補を，2015年４月，正式に表明した。

ニュージーランドの登山家。養蜂を業とする。1953年ハントを隊長とする英国の第９次エベレスト遠征隊に加わり，５月29日シェルパのテンジンとエベレスト初登頂に成功。1958年には，初の南極大陸横断をめざすフックスを隊長とする英国隊を援助するため，スコット基地から陸路南極点に達した。著書に《ハイ・アドベンチャー》など。
