Abbreviation: Tau. One of the zodiacal constellations. The V-shaped Hyades cluster represents the face of the cow, and the Pleiades cluster, which appears as a group of several stars, represents the cow's shoulders. In Greek mythology, it is said to be the incarnation of the great god Zeus when he visits the Phoenician princess Europa. In the starry sky, it faces Orion along the Milky Way. The alpha star, Aldebaran, is a red giant star and means "one who follows." This is because it is the star that rises above the eastern horizon following the Pleiades cluster, and the Japanese name for this star, "Ato-boshi" or "Subaru no Ato-boshi," is based on the same idea.
