Aokata

Japanese: 青方 - あおかた

A surname. A powerful clan based on Nakadori Island in the Goto Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture since the Heian period. They claim the surname Fujiwara. According to written records, the family name began when a man named Fujiwara Jinkaku was given the islands of Ojika and Urabe by his mother , Kiyohara Korekane , and Jinkaku's second son, Ietaka, took the name Aokata. After the Kamakura Shogunate was established, Jinkaku was appointed as the land steward of Ojika Island and became a member of the Gokenin clan. During the Kamakura period, there were repeated disputes within and outside the clan over positions and lands, but during the Nanboku-cho period, they formed an uprising with the Uku and Arikawa clans of the Matsuura clan in the Matsuura region of Hizen Province, and became part of the so-called Matsuura Party. During the Edo period, they were chief retainers of the Fukue Domain.

姓氏の一つ。長崎県の五島列島の中通島を本拠とした平安期以来の豪族。藤原姓を称す。文献上は、藤原尋覚(じんかく)なる人物が母方の清原是包(これかね)から小値賀(おじか)・浦部の両島を譲与され、尋覚二男の家高が青方を名のったことに始まるという。鎌倉幕府成立後、尋覚は小値賀島の地頭職に補任され、御家人に連なる。鎌倉期には一族内外において所職所領をめぐって相論を繰り返すが、南北朝期になると、肥前国松浦地方の松浦一族の宇久・有河氏らと一揆を結び、いわゆる松浦党の一翼を担う。江戸時代は、福江藩家老職。
