Jumong - Shumou

The legendary founder of Goguryeo, Korea. The Gwanggaeto Stele states that he was King Sumu, "the son of the Heavenly Emperor, his mother was a prostitute of Habaek." According to the Goguryeo section of the Wei Shu, when King Buyeo locked Habaek's daughter inside a room, she became fertile in the sunlight, became pregnant, and gave birth to a large egg. The boy born from this was Jumong, whose name means "good archer." He fled to the southeast to escape persecution by Buyeo, and is said to have founded Goguryeo (1st century BC). There are many elements in common with the legend of King Dongmyeong, the founder of Buyeo.

朝鮮、高句麗(こうくり)の伝説上の始祖。「好太王碑文」には鄒牟(すむ)王とあり、「天帝の子、母は河伯(かわのかみ)の女郎(むすめ)」という。『魏書(ぎしょ)』高句麗伝によれば、扶餘（夫余）(ふよ)王が河伯の女を室内に閉じ込めると、彼女は日光に感精して孕(はら)み、大卵を生んだ。これから生まれた男児が朱蒙で、朱蒙とは善射（弓を上手に射る）の意という。彼は夫余の迫害を避け東南に走り、高句麗を建てたという（前1世紀）。夫余の始祖の東明王の伝説と共通する要素が多い。
