Pisco (English spelling)
A city in the northwest of Ica Department in south-central Peru. It is a port city facing the Pacific Ocean, located at the mouth of the Pisco River, about 200 km south-southeast of the capital Lima. It was founded in 1640. It is a shipping port for the irrigated agricultural area behind it, which is mainly cultivated with cotton and grapes, and it ships cotton, fruit, wine, etc. It is particularly famous for brandy made from Muscat grapes grown in the Ica River valley in the southeast, and is named "Pisco" after the city, which is the shipping port. Industries such as cottonseed oil and cotton textiles are located in the city, and fishing is thriving along the coast. In the desert of the Paracas Peninsula to the south of the city, there are ruins of pre-Inca tombs. The Pan-American Highway passes through the city, and a railway runs from the department capital Ica, about 70 km southeast. Population 77,200 (1990 estimate).

ペルー中南部,イカ県北西部の都市。首都リマの南南東約 200km,太平洋にのぞむ港湾都市で,ピスコ川河口に位置する。 1640年建設。ワタ,ブドウの栽培を中心とした背後の灌漑農業地帯の積出港で,綿花,果実,ぶどう酒などを積出す。このうち特に南東のイカ川河谷で栽培されるマスカットブドウから造られるブランデーが有名で,積出港である市の名にちなんで「ピスコ」と名づけられている。市内には綿実油,綿織物などの工業があり,沿岸では漁業が盛ん。市南方のパラカス半島の砂漠の中には先インカ期の墳墓の遺跡がある。パンアメリカン・ハイウェーが通るほか,南東約 70kmの県都イカから鉄道が通じる。人口7万 7200 (1990推計) 。
