This model is determined to accurately represent the geomagnetic field, and is given as Gaussian coefficients. Using these coefficients and a set formula, it is possible to calculate the magnetic field on Earth or in space near the Earth. As the geomagnetic field changes every year, a new model is decided at an international conference every five years, but there are slight differences between researchers, and there is constant debate over which model is the most accurate.
