Amadai (tilefish) - Amadai

Japanese: アマダイ(甘鯛) - アマダイ

A general term for the Japanese white tilefish, red tilefish, and yellow tilefish, which belong to the family Branchiostegidae in the order Perciformes. They have similar body shapes but differ in body color. They can be distinguished by the white tilefish Branchiostegus albus (illustration) having a whitish body color, the red tilefish B. japonicus having a bright red body with a silvery-white triangular spot behind the eye, and the yellow tilefish B. argentatus (illustration) having a silvery-white body from the eye to the upper jaw.

スズキ目アマダイ科Branchiostegidaeに属する日本産のシロアマダイ，アカアマダイ，キアマダイの総称。体型はよく似ているが，体色が異なっている。シロアマダイBranchiostegus albus（イラスト）は体色が白っぽいこと，アカアマダイB.japonicusは鮮紅色で眼の後方に銀白色の三角斑があること，キアマダイB.argentatus（イラスト）は眼から上あごにかけて銀白色であることなどにより区別できる。
