A city in the north-central part of Tokyo. It was incorporated as a city in 1964. It borders Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture to the north. It is located at the southeastern end of the Sayama Hills, and is served by the Musashino Line, Seibu Railway's Shinjuku Line, Kokubunji Line, Tama Lake Line, and other lines. It was once a farming village where Sayama tea and vegetables were mainly grown, but it has rapidly developed into a suburban residential area, especially since the 1950s.
