Japanese: リー族(黎族) - リーぞく（英語表記）Lí zú

An ethnic minority group living on Hainan Island in Guangdong Province, China. They are also called the Li people. The population was about 1.11 million (1990). Over 90% of them are concentrated in the Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (established as an autonomous region in 1952, but renamed an autonomous prefecture in 1955), while the rest are scattered around the autonomous prefecture, living with the Han Chinese. The total area of the autonomous prefecture is about 17,900 km2. The Li people's region is located in the central and southwestern part of Hainan Island, and has a subtropical to tropical climate, with high temperatures, heavy rainfall, and evergreens all year round. Hills and mountains make up about 80% of the prefecture's area, and basins of various sizes are scattered between the mountain ranges.

中国の広東省海南島に住む少数民族。黎（れい）族ともいう。人口は約111万(1990)。そのうち90％以上が海南リー(黎)族ミヤオ(苗)族自治州(1952年自治区として成立したが，55年より自治州と改称)に集中し，他は自治州周辺の各地に分散し漢族とともに居住する。自治州の総面積は約1万7900km2。リー族の地域は海南島の中･南西部に位置するが，亜熱帯および熱帯気候に属し，高温多雨，四季常緑である。丘陵と山地が州の面積の約8割を占め，山地と山地の間には大小さまざまの盆地が散在する。
